Here’s a quick walkthrough of using Hyo day to day — the same user guide that’s built into the plugin.

Open the chat

Press Cmd+Shift+H on Mac, or Ctrl+Shift+H on Windows. The Hyo panel opens on the side of your Obsidian window.

You can also open it from the command palette (Cmd+P / Ctrl+P) — search for “Hyo”.

Send a message

Type into the box at the bottom and hit enter. Try something simple first, just to see it respond:

Hello — what can you help me with?

Claude replies in the panel. Its answers come out as proper formatted text, not raw markdown, so lists and headings look the way they should.

Now give it something real

The point of Hyo is that your agent can see and work with your notes. So try something that uses your vault:

Have a look through my notes and tell me what you find.

Because your vault is Claude’s working directory by default, it can read your notes to answer. When it needs to do something — open a file, search across your vault, make a change — you’ll see it happen in the conversation as a step it takes.

The first time it wants to make a change, Hyo asks your permission before letting it through. That’s the permission system, and you’re in control of how much it asks — from asking every time to letting it run hands-off.

Attach the note you’re working on

There’s a paperclip button next to the message box. Click it and choose Attach current file to hand Claude the note you’re looking at right now. Handy when you want it to work on the exact thing in front of you rather than hunting for it.

You’ve got a working agent. The most important thing to do next is decide what it can see and touch:
