Does Hyo cost anything?
Section titled “Does Hyo cost anything?”Hyo itself is free and open source. You need a paid Claude plan (Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise), because that’s what powers it. There’s no separate Hyo bill and no per-message charge.
Do I need to know how to code?
Section titled “Do I need to know how to code?”No. Hyo is built for knowledge workers, not developers. It runs Claude Code behind the scenes, but you never touch a terminal or write any code.
Does it work on my phone?
Section titled “Does it work on my phone?”Not yet. Hyo is desktop only (Mac and Windows), because it runs Claude Code on your computer. It doesn’t run on Obsidian mobile.
Is my data safe? What gets sent where?
Section titled “Is my data safe? What gets sent where?”Your messages go to Anthropic under your own Claude account, the same as using Claude directly. Nothing else is sent anywhere, there’s no tracking, and voice is off unless you switch it on. The full breakdown is on Privacy & network use.
Can it see all my notes?
Section titled “Can it see all my notes?”By default your agent works from your whole vault, so yes — that’s the point, it can work across everything you know. You can narrow that to a single folder or point it elsewhere. See setting up your workspace.
Will it change my notes without asking?
Section titled “Will it change my notes without asking?”Only if you let it. By default it’s in Ask first mode and checks with you before changing anything. You can loosen that when you’re ready. See permission modes.
How do I update Hyo?
Section titled “How do I update Hyo?”It updates itself through BRAT. When there’s a new version, it’s pulled in automatically and you’ll see a card telling you what changed.
Which model should I use?
Section titled “Which model should I use?”Stay on Sonnet 5 unless you’ve a reason not to — it handles most work well. Reach for Opus or Fable for the hardest tasks, Haiku for quick simple ones. See choosing a model.

Section titled “Is it really free? What’s the catch?”No catch. Hyo is free and open source. It’s built by Ev Chapman as part of teaching people to work well with their agents — which is what College of Knowledge is for, if you want to go further.
